Wheelchair accessible transportation, with real help
Getting to an appointment in a wheelchair should not be the hardest part of the day. Our vans are built for it: a hydraulic lift or ramp brings you aboard in your own chair, and your attendant secures it to the floor at four points before we go anywhere. No transfers into a car seat, no folding the chair into a trunk, no guessing whether the driver will help.
Assistance is door through door, not curb to curb. We come inside, help you out of the house, and at the other end we walk with you through the front door and check-in. If you searched for a wheelchair taxi, handicap transportation, or a wheelchair accessible ride, this is that, done properly: private transport for wheelchair users, single rides on your schedule, booked with one phone call.
Every wheelchair trip includes
- A lift-equipped, ADA-compliant wheelchair van
- You stay in your own wheelchair the entire trip
- Four-point securement checked before the van moves
- A trained attendant, not just a driver
- Help from inside your door to inside your destination
- A clean, climate-controlled ride every time
A rideshare cannot put a lift in a sedan
Apps now advertise medical rides, but the car that shows up is still a car. For a passenger in a wheelchair, the difference is not comfort. It is safety.
Riding with ETA
- Hydraulic lift or ramp, built for wheelchairs
- Four-point securement to the vehicle floor
- Attendant trained to assist with transfers and doors
- Booked with a local dispatch team that answers
Riding with an app
- A sedan trunk and whatever the driver can improvise
- No securement equipment at all
- A driver who is not trained or insured to assist
- An app, a stranger, and no one to call
Booked in one call, handled start to finish
Call and tell us about the trip
Where you are going, when you need to arrive, and whether it is one way or round trip. We quote a clear price on the phone before you book anything.
We confirm your pickup window
You get a confirmed window, and for many trips a text when the driver is on the way. Family arranging the ride from out of town stays in the loop too.
Your attendant handles the rest
We come to the door, help with the ramp or lift, secure the chair, and walk you all the way through check-in at the other end. No one is left at a curb.
Curious what the day itself looks like? We wrote a plain English walkthrough: what to expect from a wheelchair transport service.
“Essential Transport Assistance has become my go-to for medical transport. I've used them for everything from post-surgery trips, physical therapy and to regular check-ups, including wheelchair and stretcher service, and they never disappoint. They are incredibly reliable, safety-conscious, and efficient. You can tell they have a high standard for how they treat their passengers; the staff is always professional and attentive. If you need reliable, quality transportation, I highly recommend giving them a call.”
Common wheelchair trips we drive

Common questions
Can I stay in my own wheelchair during the ride?
Yes. Riding in your own chair is the standard way we transport wheelchair passengers. The chair is secured to the vehicle floor at four points and the attendant checks every strap before the van moves.
Do you transport power wheelchairs and scooters?
In most cases yes. Tell dispatch the type of chair or scooter when you book so we send the right vehicle and plan the lift and securement correctly.
Is this a wheelchair taxi? Can I book a single ride?
Yes. You can book a single one-way or round trip, no membership and no contract. Many families also set up recurring rides for dialysis, therapy, or regular appointments.
Can a family member or caregiver ride along?
In most cases yes, at no extra charge for one companion. Mention it when you book so we plan the seating.
How much does wheelchair transportation cost?
Every trip is quoted individually based on distance, one way or round trip, and any wait time. You get the full price on the phone before you book, with no hidden fees. We are private pay and also set up account billing for facilities.
Do you provide wheelchair transportation in Miami and Miami-Dade?
Yes. We serve all of Miami-Dade, including Miami, Miami Beach, Hialeah, Kendall, Aventura, Doral, and Coral Gables, along with Broward and Palm Beach counties. Trips that cross a county line, like Miami to a specialist in Fort Lauderdale, are quoted the same way, by distance, with the price confirmed before you book.
Is this private wheelchair transport, or do I need a broker or insurance?
It is private, direct-booked wheelchair transport. You call us and you ride with us, with no broker or call center in between. We are private pay with cash and major cards. If you have a Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance plan that covers rides, coverage varies by plan, so call us and we will walk through your options.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Book as early as you can, especially for morning appointments. That said, we take same-day and short-notice trips whenever availability allows, so it never hurts to call.
